Psalm119:9  HOW CAN A YOUNG MAN KEEP HIS WAY PURE?  BY LIVING ACCORDING TO YOUR WORD.Psalm 119:11  I HAVE HIDDEN YOUR WORD IN MY HEART THAT I MIGHT NOT SIN AGAINST YOU.

Recently, my husband and I were talking with our teenage son, and as we encouraged him, we talked about these verses from Psalm 119.

But even as we spoke, I couldn’t help but consider how applicable these two verses are to each and every believer’s life:  Whether you’re a kid facing the pressures and pains of growing up, or whether you’re an adult just trying to live in the world (without being OF the world,) these two verses are power-packed.

Psalm 119:9 says that to keep pure, We must learn to LIVE according to God’s Word.

Now that sounds good enough, but one thing is certain:  When we most need God’s Word, we don’t often have the time to go find a Bible, and start looking things up.  Most of the time that we need Godly Wisdom and Counsel the most–we need it NOW Like:  ten minutes ago NOW.

So how do we do that?

The verses that follow, help us put it together:
Verse 11 says that it is by HIDING GOD’S WORD in our hearts that we will AVOID SINNING AGAINST HIM.

Hiding God’s Word in our hearts:   The things that are “hidden” in your heart are not easily forgotten.  Your birthday.  Your spouse’s and children’s birthday (you hope. :))  The things you love and cherish are all “hidden in your heart.”

The same goes with the Word of God.  When you really want to know His Word…then you take time to meditate on it…Study it…Write it down, learn it, and know it.  THEN it is “hidden in your heart.”  You will know it well.  And THEN it will spring up and naturally apply to your life when you need it the very most.

It may be a discipline at first, but the benefits of KNOWING, and LIVING ACCORDING to God’s WORD are priceless:
Walking in peace.  Avoiding sin. Keeping your way PURE.

I recommend taking the time to read all of Psalm 119, and then choosing a new verse to memorize this week!
