“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” Psalm 42:1
The imagery in this passage, used to depict the authors’ desperate desire to know Christ is very powerful and led me to ask myself, “what language would I use to describe my current state of hunger for Christ?” I invite you contemplate this same question as you read through the traditional hymn below.
As the Deer:
As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after thee
You alone are my hearts desire
And I long to worship thee
You alone are my strength my shield
To you alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my hearts desire
And I long to worship thee
You’re my friend and You are my brother,
Even though you are a king.
I love you more than any other,
So much more than anything.
