“Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.”
– Matthew 10:38-39

God invites us to step out of our comfort zone to follow him in faith. There is always a cost, but the rewards of following God are so worth any sacrifice.

When Nelson Powell felt God calling him to leave his home, family, and old life in Australia to work with Walking on Water in California, he knew it would take a step of faith. Matthew 10:38-39 stood out to Nelson, who realized that to truly be in God’s will, “I had to lose my old life and make sacrifices for God’s sake.”

Sometimes we focus on the things we are called to give up, when God wants us to see the bigger picture and all we will gain by following Him. God loves to bless us, but we must first take the step of faith, obeying Him in the big and small things. Nelson says, “God has so clearly demonstrated his love for me, and anything that I did give up has been replaced with bigger and better things. So really, I didn’t give up anything; I have only gained from this experience.”

Let’s be bold in following God’s call on our life in the big and little things. Keep your eyes on His Him and let go of anything holding you back to follow His call. His blessings will be waiting.
