Joshua 1-9

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” -Joshua 1:9

Have you ever noticed that just before a personal victory or breakthrough, fear and doubt are the very strongest? And how many times have those fears and doubts made us stop and turn back before we reached a goal? It is a terrible feeling to look back and wonder how things might have gone if we had just pressed through to the end!

But it doesn’t have to be that way. God says that He will be with us wherever we go; We have every reason to be bold and courageous. Whether we are sharing our faith with a friend, or following a new direction in work or with our family, we can trust that God is with us.

So, practically speaking, how can we battle fear and doubt? I think the most helpful tool is in getting to know God’s Word, which we can apply when we begin to feel anxious or worried. Finding key Scriptures that will apply to our circumstances and remind us of His love can make all of the difference when negative emotions creep in. Then as we pray through things we face, we can hear Him direct us to go this way or that. We may not know the future, but we can be certain that He will be with us in it.

What Bible verses might you apply to what you are facing just now? Today’s Word is a good one to start with! “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD, your God will be with you where’ve you go.” (Joshua 1:9.) Write it on a card. Hang it up as a reminder. Then add more verses that will encourage you in your circumstances!
