Dave’s passion for snowboarding accompanied by his love for God and surfing, eventually led him to the Walking On Water Ministry. Growing up in Manhattan Beach, CA, Dave Downing always had aspirations of becoming a professional surfer, that is, until he strapped on a snowboard for the first time at 21 years of age and discovered his untapped talent in the sport. “It takes a lot more time to be a better surfer than it does to be a better snowboarder,” David explains. “God just dropped snowboarding right in my lap. I started getting into it and next thing I knew, I was sponsored and in two years I was a ‘professional.’ I didn’t really plan on it, it just kind of happened.”

Through His involvement with Nations Foundation (Founded by Joel Parker a former Walking On Water employee), Dave became more familiar with Walking On Water and now serves on the Board of Directors. Dave Shares, “I believe in what Walking On Water is doing in the Surf Culture because a lot of surfers in the world have never been to a church and really heard the “Good News.” Seeing surfers go to a ‘surf movie’ and then hear Jesus’ message of Salvation is Amazing. I love to see how God uses the draw of the ocean to ultimately impact peoples lives and give them hope in something bigger than just pleasing themselves.” This past summer Dave had the opportunity to meet and get to know Derek Rabelo during the filming of Beyond Sight.  Thinking back on this experience Dave shares, “Derek’s story and accomplishments are truly amazing. As with each of the other Walking On Water films, I am eager to see God do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine through Derek’s story.”
