PEACE:

PSALM 29:11 THE LORD GIVES STRENGTH TO HIS PEOPLE; THE LORD BLESSES HIS PEOPLE WITH PEACE.

I’m not sure about the rest of you, but I would hardly describe most of my days as PEACEFUL.  With a toddler throwing tantrums, a teenage son, and two more kids in-between, I hardly have a moment of silence, let alone anything I would call PEACEFUL.

Whether you’re stressed at work, or stressed at home, most of us would describe our days with words like “BUSY,” and “stressful,” much more than with the word “PEACE.”

But I can’t help but come back again to Jesus’ words on PEACE.  And I ask myself: HOW can we find PEACE when LIFE is so stressful?

What does Jesus even mean by Blessing His people with PEACE?

John 14:27  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Jesus is not referring to the absence of pressures. Jesus Himself walked in this world, and experienced all of the social and political pressures of his day, and yet He maintained an abiding peace that absolutely set Him apart.

Jesus’ Peace was supernatural.  He had an eternal perspective, even while walking in this temporal world.

And He offers US PEACE as we choose to share His perspective.  Right in the midst of our very real pressure-filled days.

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

By placing our trust in God in the midst of our days, He promises to give us perfect peace.  He doesn’t say that He will remove all of our stressors, but that we will have perfect peace in the midst of them.   It really isn’t so complicated at all.  God has made a promise and we can count on Him to be faithful.  We steadfastly choose to trust Him, and in turn He provides us with a real and abiding PEACE.
