Partnership with Scots College in Sydney, Australia

In late March, Bryan Jennings had the privilege of teaching for a week at the chapels, Christian education classes, and film & tv classes at Scots College (all boys school) in Sydney, Australia. Bryan also showed the students, ages 8 – 17, the Surfers & Cowboys movie, and it was very well received. For the past four years Bryan Jennings has been friends with Dr. Ian Lambert who is the principal of Scots College in Sydney, Australia. Many of the students started a relationship with Jesus Christ when Bryan gave them the opportunity. Another highlight was encouraging the young film makers at Scots College, and planning a student exchange program where the Australian students will be given a behind-the-scenes Hollywood film making experience, and they will also attend the Walking On Water surf camps this summer. Then, in return, the Australian students will host a group of our surf campers in their hometown of Sydney, Australia, later in the year. This partnership with Scots College is a great example of how the Walking On Water ministry hopes to raise up, train, and encourage the next generation of young leaders from all over the world. Huge thank you to Jeanine Treherne, the CEO of the Stand Tall Events, who originally introduced Bryan to Dr. Lambert. For info on Scots College, visit

Personal Story : Sergio Lima

Sergio Lima was raised on the island of Fernando De Noronha, in Brazil. Sergio’s life was not easy growing up; he was poor and he did not have a father involved in his life. But surfing became his great passion, and by 14 he was surfing professionally. When Christian Surfers, Brazil, came to his island to do surf schools for the community, Sergio took interest. At first he wanted to get involved with the group for the free surf boards they offered, but clearly God had another plan; soon Sergio was going to evening Bible studies, and hearing about the love of God. Sergio gave his life to the Lord when he was 17.

One thing Sergio remembers well from the Christian Surfers meetings was how they would show the Walking on Water movies. He was inspired to see really good surfers who loved Jesus. Soon Sergio realized, “Hey, I can do that! I can be a great surfer and share the gospel!” This inspiration never went away. Sergio met and married Carly, an American girl, and the two of them eventually moved to the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. There they started Island Style Surf School, and Sergio became involved in ministry at the Mission North Shore church. This last winter, Sergio became a Pastor. 2 kids, a lot of surf lessons and youth groups later, Sergio’s heart is very full.

This spring, Sergio and Carly, along with their friends Aaron and Corrine Gold, will be traveling back to Sergio’s home island in Brazil. Sergio looks forward to seeing the people he grew up with, and sharing the gospel every where he can. They will be showing the Surfers and Cowboys movie, which is great because not only are there a lot of surfers there, but many cowboys on the island as well!

Sergio mentions John 1:12 as a theme verse for the trip and for his life: “Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” Because he remembers what it was like growing up without a father, Sergio wants to tell everyone that there is a Father whose love can change your life. No matter where you come from or who you are, God loves you. This is the message he hopes to share with the people back in Fernando De Noronha, and everyone else he meets. The Word : Philippians 3:10

“I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of suffering…” – Philippians 3.10

Paul, who penned much of the New Testament, knew what it meant to suffer. He wrote many of his letters in times of suffering, persecution, and even from prison. Paul wrote truths that we would often rather forget: That trials and suffering are a part of life as followers of Jesus. Yet he also shared that suffering can provide us with some of the richest fellowship with Christ we will ever know.

We would all like to live a pain free life. No one goes out looking for trials or suffering. Yet none of us will be spared from these realities either. The good news is, for those of us who have a relationship with Jesus, we can see these things as a way to know Him more, to experience His presence, and to fellowship more deeply with Him.

Easter is a wonderful time to reflect on Jesus’ resurrection and the gift of eternal life. Yet, let us remember that there would be no resurrection if Jesus didn’t first suffer and die. And even more, he suffered and died for our sins. As we embrace all of the good this Easter, let us take time to also meditate on Jesus’ sufferings. Then let us see our own trials as a means to know Jesus more intimately, both the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his suffering.

Remembering Billy Graham - 2/21/2018

Billy Graham has always been my hero! I came close to meeting him a few times, but never did. However, he still inspired me to go and share the Gospel! I remember wanting to be just like Billy — someone who would share the Gospel message to thousands of people in packed out stadiums. That never happened for me, but instead I had the opportunity to share the Gospel with smaller audiences at our Walking On Water movie theater outreaches held all over the world. After 15 years of sharing the Gospel in movie theaters, auditoriums, churches, in bars, and on beaches, I realized one day that we had been in front of over 500,000 people in live attendance! This amount of people would have filled 5 football stadiums, so God did fulfill my dream to be like Billy Graham! I love the testimony from Pastor Ray Bentley of Maranatha Chapel and how he shares that his parents brought him and his brother to a movie theater when he was a boy. They were excited to see a James Bond movie or some action film but instead the only choice that day was a Billy Graham movie. The boys were upset at first but Ray found himself responding to the Gospel message that Billy Graham gave at the end of the movie. Ray jumped out of his seat and went forward in the movie theater and started his relationship with Jesus Christ. Ray never looked back, and he is one of my favorite bible teaching pastors today! God was at work in the movie theaters back then and he still is today!

Those of us here will miss you deeply, Billy, but I can’t wait to meet you in heaven, and I will thank you personally for being a hero and role model I could look up to my entire life. I hope I can make you proud through persevering to share the Gospel with this generation, only through the power of the Holy Spirit! Let’s share stories in Heaven of all that God did as we stepped out in faith to share Christ’s love! Thank you again Billy and you will always be my hero!

Personal Story: I CAN ONLY IMAGINE

Noah Hamilton invited Bryan Jennings to a pre-screening of the new movie, “I Can Only Imagine”, and Bryan was truly impressed by the production quality, the story, and the heart behind the movie. The movie shares the so-far untold story behind the best selling Christian song of all time titled: “I can only imagine.” It is a touching story about a boy from Texas named Bart Millard, and his strained relationship with his Father…the journey this difficult relationship sent him on, and how it lead to a spiritual journey for both he and his father.

Themes of forgiveness and hope are beautifully woven through the movie. Before Bart could find his voice and write this amazing song, God had him go towards his pain instead of away from it, and led him to peace after a lifetime of conflict. Bart had to face the painful relationship he had with his father in order to know the freedom which allowed him to write THE SONG that impacted the world. What seemed like a loss — the pain and hopelessness that Bart knew, became a gain…a healed relationship where hope was restored! These are important themes we can all relate to and be inspired by.

Dennis Quaid who starred in Soul Surfer, and also in this movie says about the story: “It’s about how one could have a complete change of heart, and how much you can move the earth with that….That doesn’t happen very often.”

Bryan is hosting a special screening on March 15 in San Juan Capistrano so email [email protected] if interested in attending. The movie comes out March 16 nationwide, so we encourage you to go see it! Be sure to watch the trailer and find more information at

The Word : Matthew 10:39

“What does it profit a man if he gains the whole world but forfeits his soul?”

Your LOSS or your GAIN?

Jesus' teaching flips our worldview upside down. People are constantly trying to find fulfillment through success at work, sports, school, and relationships. Yet Jesus says to find our lives, we must lose them. (Matt 10:39)

Jesus was born into this world with a mission to go and lose! Or at least that is what it would look like to people if they only looked through human eyes. They would see a man claiming to be the Messiah -- God in the flesh, but who was humiliated and defeated -- killed on a cross. However that is not actually what happened! What was really happening was Jesus understood that it is more blessed to give than to receive, to lose so others can win, to die so that we could have eternal life. He was on a mission to serve and not to be served, and to die rather than to cling to life for himself.

So if our King and our Messiah was on such a mission-- shouldn’t we live the same way? Giving can seem like losing, especially when someone does not reciprocate. Jesus said not to throw a party for “your friends, your brothers, or sisters, your relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do they may invite you back and so you will be repaid.” (Luke 14:12) That word repaid is huge here! Jesus encourages us to give without any expectation of being “repaid.” That might feel a lot like losing. However Jesus reminds us that it is more blessed to give than to receive, and that a life of truly giving is the most fulfilling life of all.

Satan, our enemy has spoken the lie from the beginning, that if you live life God’s way you will lose. And there is nothing further from the truth! What seems to be a loss will actually be a gain! On the contrary Proverbs 16:25 says "there is a way that seems right to a man but in the end it leads to death!" Jesus' upside down theology is the greatest news of all time.

Bryan Jennings and the Walking On Water team

I CAN ONLY IMAGINE - it’s the song that brings ultimate hope to so many … often in the midst of life’s most challenging moments. Amazingly, the song was written in mere minutes by MercyMe lead singer Bart Millard. In reality, those lyrics took a lifetime to craft.

Although he found faith at a young age, life wasn’t easy for Bart. He leaned into an active imagination and his love of music as escapes from a troubled home life. As he grew older, Bart turned to football in hopes of somehow connecting with his abusive father. But a career-ending injury—combined with the vision of a teacher who saw unlimited potential—set Bart on a musical pathway.

Chasing a dream while running from broken relationships with his father and Shannon, his childhood sweetheart, Bart hits the road in an old, decrepit tour bus with his new band MercyMe—named for his grandmother’s favorite expression. With the guidance of a grizzled music-industry insider, the band begins a journey none of them could ever have imagined.

A gripping reminder of the power of forgiveness, I CAN ONLY IMAGINE beautifully illustrates that no one is ever too far from God’s love—or from an eternal home in Heaven.
