Accommodations
For the 2012 Walking On Water Dream Surf Camps we will be staying in the picturesque college dorms at Point Loma Nazarene University, one of the most beautiful college campuses Southern California has to offer. Campers will be paired by gender (boys with boys an girls with girls) with the ratio of one counselor to every 5 students.
Special Guests
Over the years we have been blessed with special appearances by Tom Curren, Bethany Hamilton, Damien Hobgood, CJ Hobgood, Matt Beacham, and other professional surfers. There is a good chance some of them will come this summer depending on their busy schedules.
Equipment
The ocean is usually warm enough to simply wear a bathing suit. However we do recommend that you bring a wetsuit if possible. We do have some wetsuits that you can use at no additional cost as long as we have your size. The use of a beginner surfboard is also included in the cost of camp. Our surfboards are soft beginner boards that are great for learning. Please do not bring your own surfboard if you are a beginner. Hard surfboards are not good and/or safe for learning. If you are a intermediate or advanced surfer please bring your own surfboard.
Camp Safety
We take safety very seriously at our surf camps. Lifeguards monitor the beaches where we surf each day. Students wear bright rashguards so they are easily visible and identifiable with the group. The student to counselor ratio in the water is a maximum of 5 students per counselor. Our surf instructors are Red Cross certified in CPR and lifesaving techniques, very strong swimmers/surfers and have many years of ocean experience. All beginners use high quality soft boards and surf in shallow water. Each individual student is assigned to a group of five students and to one counselor. That counselor is responsible for supervising their group 24 hours per day for the duration of the camp. Please call us with any concerns.
Flight Arrangement
Every year we have many students between ages of 11 and 18 fly in for our camps. A Walking On Water representative will be at the airport to pick up each student on the first day of camp and will drop them off on the last day of camp. Our representative will be waiting for the students at the baggage claim and if necessary will check the student in as they fly back home. Special travel requests are welcome. We recommend that you fly into San Diego International Airport, arriving on the first day of camp between the times of 1pm and 4pm and departing on the last day of camp between the times of 1pm and 4pm. Please submit your student's flight information to Walking On Water along with a photo of your student before July 1st.
