God truly did more than we could have ever asked or imagined! God opened every door possible including being invited by Billabong to the Billabong Pipeline masters, spending time with current world champion Joel Parkinson, filming with Kelly Slater, Derek getting great waves at Pipeline, and surfing with many of the best surfers on planet earth! One of the highlights of the trip was showing the Beyond Sight movie trailer to a packed Surfer Bar just before Tom Curren played music. The crowd loved meeting Derek and watching the movie trailer and our team then passed out 150 free Walking On Water dvds. Derek was able to meet and film with Bruce Irons, Gerry Lopez, Sunny Garcia, Reef Macintosh, Makua Rothman, Kala Alexander, John John Florence, TJ Barron, Coco Ho, Lakey Peterson and many others. Billabong also made sure to feature our team and the Beyond Sight 1 minute video on the live webcast seen by every surfer in the world. On the final day of the trip I had the honor of introducing Derek Rabelo to Bethany Hamilton. They are both inspiring this entire generation so I am glad that they are now friends. We had a fun day filming for the Beyond Sight movie together. Thank you for all of your support and prayers! A big thank you to Billabong, S4J Hawaii Productions, Marty family, Duhs Family, Hamilton family, Paul Polakowski, Swanson Family, Clark family, Wentz family, Jay Schweitzer, Nathan Apfell, Faith Fay, Sean Marin, Jonty Bougas, Mike Stangel, Surfing the Nations, CR Studios, Cobian Sandals, and everyone who worked hard on this filming trip. www.beyondsightmovie.com for more info. Today was our first day of filming Beyond Sight here in Hawaii. The day started out with surfboard shaper Eddie Piccalo presenting Derek Rabelo with his Diamond Head surf boards. Derek and his surf coach Maru, placed stickers from Derek’s sponsors, Billabong, Cobian Sandals, and Souls for Jesus carefully upon the boards. Then it was off to Pipeline where Derek visited with Rob Machado, John John Florence, Koa Rothman, and Derek Ho. Derek, Bryan Jennings, and Bruno Lemos discussed the surf conditions and decided tomorrow morning would be the perfect day for Derek to paddle out and surf Pipeline. Thank you for your continued prayers and support! Please continue to ask all your friends to become one of our Backers on Kickstarter! We only have 16 days left to reach our goal of $77,777 for the production budget of this very special movie!! thank you!!! Kickstarter link is here: http://www.kickstarter.com/
We had an amazing Walking On Water Hawaii Family Camp in November! We had special guests Bethany Hamilton, Sonya Chung, Faith Faye, and pro surfer TJ Barron. The weekend was absolutely blessed, full of divine appointments and it was so special to get to know the families who attended. The Marty family was on vacation in Oahu and ended up joining our camp, after randomly meeting us on the beach and learning why we were there. We had devotionals on the beach, surfed Waikiki, watched Sunny Garcia win the Sunset surf competition, handed out many Walking On Water films people on the beach and had a private catered dinner with Bethany Hamilton as our special guest. The final day we attended One Love Church in Honolulu and were blessed by Pastor Waxer's message! Thank you to all of our special guests, Cobian Sandals, Pastor Mike Stangle, and TJ Barron's parents for catering the food!!! Our next Hawaii family camp will be on Oahu again in May of 2013! See you there! Aloha!
This past Month, on Saturday September 22nd, Walking On Water hosted an inspirational evening with Derek Rabelo to promote the Beyond Sight film and raise awareness for the Kickstarter campaign that is about to launch. With a great turnout of 300 guests, we were able to reach our goal of raising awareness for the film and were also able to raise about $8,000 towards the production of the film. We were very blessed to have Bruno Lemos (of Bruno Productions), Derek Rabelo and the entire Souls 4 Jesus Hawaii productions team at the event. We would like to thank Wahoo's for providing a great dinner, Christian Surfers San Clemente, Souls 4 Jesus Hawaii Productions, Dominic Balli for the music, Andy Albrecht and Jay Wentz from Are You Ready Clothing and Shoreline Church for hosting us. We are still in need of funds for the production of Beyond Sight. For more info on how to support the film please visit, www.beyondsightmovie.com
We had a VERY blessed week at the Hurley Lowers Pro 2012 filming the Beyond Sight movie (About Derek Rabelo blind surfer who surfed Pipeline). Bruno Lemos and the S4J Hawaii Productions were in town for this special week of filming. We surfed/filmed/interviewed Taj Burrow, Joel Parkinson, Kelly Slater, Peter King, Adriano De Souza, Jadson Andre, Damien Hobgood, and others. Bob Hurley and Pat O'connel made sure we were on the live webcast each day talking about Rob Machado surfing with Derek. What a very blessed week!!!! Thank you Hurley team! Derek Rabelo also officially now is sponsored by Billabong and Cobian Sandals! For more info about the movie go to: www.beyondsightmovie.com
Two weeks before Bryan Jennings traveled to Rio, Brazil with 3X World Champion Tom Curren, He watched a powerful youtube video produced by Bruno Productions about a blind surfer who surfed pipeline. “I was absolutely amazed and inspired.” Derek Rabelo, the blind surfer from that video is from Brazil and was scheduled to be a special guest at the Walking On Water movie outreach in Rio, Brazil. The day after the event, Bryan, Derek and the other special guests from the movie outreach, Tom Curren, Damien Hobgood and Lakey Peterson all went surfing together. Each were amazed at Derek’s ability to surf despite being blind but were even more touched by his Faith in Jesus Christ.
“What I didn't know, at the time,” Bryan shares, “was that God had a bigger plan as always. I met Bruno Lemos and his Bruno Productions film crew who were already working on Derek's movie and we began to talk about partnering up to make a movie about Derek. When I returned home from Brazil I could not stop thinking about Derek and his powerful testimony. God then made it very clear through some miraculous circumstances that Derek's story would be our next Walking On Water film titled, BEYOND SIGHT and the theme of the movie would be based on 2 Corinthians 5:7 which says, "We are to live by faith, NOT by sight." We have teamed up with Bruno Productions who created the original youtube video of Derek to produce Beyond Sight. Please read below for the film synopsis.
Amidst the small beautiful city of Guarapari, Brazil, Derek Rabelo's father prayed that his son would become a famous professional surfer. His father named his son after the legendary Pipeline surfer Derek Ho, the embodiment of his dream. Unfortunately on May 25th 1992, his prayer seemed unanswered when Derek was born blind. Seventeen years later Derek decided that despite his blindness he still wanted to surf and that he wanted to surf Pipeline on the North Shore of Oahu. Through the encouragement of his parents, best friend, and surf coach, Derek embarked on a three-year journey of grueling mental, physical and spiritual training. Join Derek as he perseveres towards his goal of surfing Pipeline and along the way inspires the best surfers in the world including Kelly Slater, Gerry Lopez, Tom Curren, Damien Hobgood, Derek Ho, Laird Hamilton, Lakey Peterson, Coco Ho, and the entire surfing world. You will learn from Derek's story that the best journeys in life are walked by faith, and not by sight.
The Beyond Sight production is off to a great start! Less than two weeks ago, Derek arrived in California and since then we have had an incredible time filming the Beyond Sight movie. During his stay we have miraculously been able to film with Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, Damien Hobgood, Laird Hamilton, Coco Ho, and Lakey Peterson. Surfer Magazine had "Slater Leads The Blind" story as their top story all week (http://www.surfermag.com/features/slater-leads-the-blind/). The San Diego Union Tribune also did a great article about Derek (http://www.utsandiego.com/news/2012/jul/27/seeing-through-blind-surfer/).

Thank you for praying for our Hawaii outreach trip! We had an incredible time working together One Love Church and with Tom Bauer and his Surfing The Nations' organization. Professional surfers TJ Barron and Bethany Hamilton (www.bethanyhamilton.com) along with actresses Sonya Balmores Chung and Faith Faye made our first ever Walking On Water Hawaii family surf camp so special! One Love Church partnered with us to host the Cobian Sandals sponsored Promised Land movie screening, which had a packed attendance - thanks to STN announcing the Film Screening every 10 minutes at their annual surf contest at Waikiki Beach.
Our Cobian Sandals Sponsorship enabled us to hand out over 1,000 Walking on Water dvds to onlookers and passerby’s at the contest and we were able to share the Gospel with many Japanese tourists thanks to Bryan’s good friend Toshi and his mother serving as translators. We look forward to many future Hawaii Walking On Water family surf camps and outreach trips! If you are interested in attending a future Hawaii family surf camp please let Alli know at: [email protected]
My friend and musical artist Maria Pugliese invited us to come to Rio, Brazil at the same time as the World Tour Surfing competition to host a movie outreach. Maria, her pastor, and her leadership team in Rio did an amazing job organizing and promoting the Walking On Water movie night! Tom Curren has been my surfing hero since I was 12 years old so to be good friends with him now is such a blessing. Tom and I traveled to Brazil and were joined at the movie night by other special guests Damien Hobgood, Lakey Peterson (www.lakeypeterson.com), and Derek Rabelo who is a blind surfer. The movie night was packed out and everyone loved the W.O.W. film. Tom, the Hobgoods, Pat Gadauskas, Lakey, and Derek all met at the beach the following morning at the beach to surf with the favela surf school which consists of some of the poorest kids in Rio. To watch Derek who is blind paddle out and catch waves was probably the most amazing thing I have ever seen in surfing. Derek loves Jesus and is a huge inspiration. We will be helping produce his documentary titled Beyond The Vision and the movie's theme verse is 2 Corinthians 5:7 Walk by Faith not by Sight! The next day the waves were 15 feet faces and powerful, but that didn't stop Derek from being towed into the big waves by Brazilian big wave surfer Carlos Burle. It was a great reminder to me that we are not to look around at the circumstances, but instead walk by faith focused on God and what HE can do. On the final day of the trip I met William who was 11 years old and lived on the streets of Rio after his parents left him. My heart broke for William who is such a special kid! Maria is going to follow up with him to see how we can best help. Please be praying for Derek and his movie as well as for William. Thank you to Maria and all our Brazilian friends for your hard work! We can't wait to come back soon. Here is the video update from Brazil: https://vimeo.com/42471975
