At Walking On Water Surf Camp this last summer, Nick, Chad and Clay – along with the rest of the camp – received a challenge from Bryan Jennings to take a step of faith and find a mission trip to be a part of. Chad recounts, “Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 28:19 to go out into the world and make disciples, so that was going to be the next huge step in my Christian life.” After hearing this message, and being encouraged by their camp counselor, Sheadon Ringor, the three boys decided to take that challenge to heart, and pursue that next step of faith. The results were “immeasurably greater than we could have asked or imagined” (Ephesians 3:20).
“Even though we could not speak Spanish very well that language barrier disappeared when we went surfing with the kids. We would tell a couple kids that we were going to surf later and when we would get out in the water there would be just a few of us, then within 30 minutes there would be a whole mob of little kids laughing and surfing with us out in the line up.” –Nick Coons on his experience in El Salvador with Walking On Water
Chad, a great surfer and natural leader, was used by God to build relationships with the youth of El Zonte, El Salvador, both in and out of the water. His response was this, “It made me appreciate the path that God has for me; to use my surfing for spreading the word of the gospel. The trip impacted me that God has so much in store for me.”
Clay, a great surfer as well, with a humble and determined desire to serve God and love others, reflects on the trip, “This missions trip has allowed me to realize that God uses you in amazing ways that you would never realize. This trip really changed my mind set on life and made me want to be all in serving God.”0 Discuss & Comment
Beautifully Flawed Retreat
Friends of Bethany Hamilton hosted a weekend retreat for young women with limb loss. Walking on Water and Surf Sessions hosted the surf lesson for the first annual Beautifully Flawed retreat on Saturday, October 5, 2013. The girls were nervous and excited as they watch a demonstration by pro surfer and fellow amputee, Bethany Hamilton. Anticipation soon turned to reality as each girl hit the water accompanied by volunteer surfers and lifeguards. The waves at Del Mar beach were the perfect size for learning and every girl inspired the beach by their courage, perseverance, and joy in riding waves! A few of the girls shocked us by their natural talent and even charged some waves on the outside!
“When we were planning the Beautifully Flawed retreat, we wanted it to be evangelistic, inspirational, and practical. I am thrilled to say that after the weekend is over, we accomplished each of these goals.
Many of the girls and their families have told me that the retreat was life changing for them.
Bethany and Lauren are able to relate to and speak to these young women in a way few other people can. Overall, we were all blown away with the weekend and the effects it had on all the girls and all of our staff as well!” Katie Ancheta, Friends of Bethany Hamilton Foundation
"I could not believe how well the girls did! Bethany and I were both expecting them to need much more help than they did! It was one of the most inspirational things I have ever seen in Surfing." Bryan Jennings0 Discuss & Comment

We had an amazing Walking On Water Hawaii Family Camp in November! We had special guests Bethany Hamilton, Sonya Chung, Faith Faye, and pro surfer TJ Barron. The weekend was absolutely blessed, full of divine appointments and it was so special to get to know the families who attended. The Marty family was on vacation in Oahu and ended up joining our camp, after randomly meeting us on the beach and learning why we were there. We had devotionals on the beach, surfed Waikiki, watched Sunny Garcia win the Sunset surf competition, handed out many Walking On Water films people on the beach and had a private catered dinner with Bethany Hamilton as our special guest. The final day we attended One Love Church in Honolulu and were blessed by Pastor Waxer's message! Thank you to all of our special guests, Cobian Sandals, Pastor Mike Stangle, and TJ Barron's parents for catering the food!!! Our next Hawaii family camp will be on Oahu again in May of 2013! See you there! Aloha!0 Discuss & Comment
This past summer Walking On Water hosted 5 amazing surf camps at La Jolla Shores and Del Mar Beach in San Diego, CA. Each camp was uniquely special and more fun than we could have planned for! Many students made first time decisions to follow Jesus Christ and even more students rededicated their lives to the Lord at the camps. Bryan Jennings shares, “Year after year I am left in awe at Gods ability to change lives; Watching Him work in each of the students life is truly something to behold. Thank you to all who attended the 2012 Camps! It was a very special time!”
For those who did not attend, please check our website this February for the 2013 camp dates and details. If a year is just too long for you to wait to experience a Walking On Water Camp, then we would like to invite you to our Hawaii Family Camp this November 10-11 in Waikiki, HI with Bethany Hamilton, actress Sonya Balmores and other special guests. Thank you to everyone who attended the 16th annual Walking On Water and FCA dream surf camps over the past three weeks! What a blessed three weeks of camps! First week was our day camp for ages 7-14, second camp was our overnight Jr. High camp, and last week was our High School overnight camp. We had many students fly in from all over the United States! It was so fun to meet each one of you! Camps were filled with great waves, great weather, new friendships, and drawing closer to Jesus Christ! We were blessed to have special guests AnnaSophia Robb and Sonya Balmores and Faith Faye who were star actresses from the Soul Surfer movie! Matt Beacham, Damien Hobgood, John Cobian and 31 Bits also visited our campers! We are thinking about possibly doing a surf camp December 30th through January 3rd in WAIKIKI, OAHU! We will keep you posted. God bless you!4 Discuss & Comment
