Word: 2 Peter 1:3-9

“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.”

In the passage above, Peter stresses the importance of keeping the Gospel at the core foundation of our daily living, “not [forgetting] that [we] have been cleansed from [our] past sins”. This good news is designed to transform our lives and bear fruit in us. Transformation is an active and ongoing process. We are never to move past or move onward from the gospel message but are to assimilate it into our daily lives, recognizing that ongoing transformation requires daily recognition of what God has done for us in the gospel.

In a study titled, The Gospel Centered Life, authors Bob Thune and Will Walker discuss the importance of living “Gospel-Centered lives” just as the title suggests. They state, “Many Christians live with a truncated view of the gospel. We see the gospel as the ‘door,’ the way in, the entrance point into God’s kingdom. But the gospel is so much more! It is not just the door, but the path we are to walk every day of the Christian life. It is not just the means of our salvation, but the means of our transformation. It is not simply deliverance from sin’s penalty, but release from sin’s power. The gospel is what makes us right with God (justification) and it is also what frees us to delight in God (sanctification). The gospel changes everything!” As we move forward, let us not put our hope in the false sense of our “goodness” but let us find rest and hope in Jesus our perfect Redeemer who is “our righteousness, holiness and redemption.” (1Corinthians 1:30) Not so that God can make much of us but so that we can be freed to make much of Him! New York Soul Surfer Screening Miraculously Successful in one of the best theaters in Manhattan!

I absolutely love how God works and it is interesting that I just taught on Luke 2:25 about Simeon being "Prompted" by the Holy Spirit. After a Walking On Water supporter made a donation from New York city a few weeks ago, I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to host a Soul Surfer screening in New York city while the world tour of surfing was there and during the tenth anniversary of 911. I asked Bethany Hamilton and AnnaSophia Robb if they would like to come and to my surprise that had already been invited during the same exact dates to attend a Cantor Fitzgerald's fundraiser. God had set it all up in advance. So before I knew it, I was on an airplane flying into New York city on September 11th. As our American Airlines flight flew past the new towers being rebuilt in downtown Manhattan, I couldn't believe that exactly ten years ago to the hour such a terrible thing had happened in New York. My next three days in New York were full of divine appointments. I attended Mike Doyle's (He worked at WOW for 5 years) new church appropriately named The Movement, attended the Cantor Fitzgerald memorial (They lost 658 employees out of 1,000 employees on 911) where Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke, met up with Bethany Hamilton and AnnaSophia Robb for the Cantor Fitzgerald charity day which donates all of their profits that day to over one hundred charities, and finally hosted the Soul Surfer screening at the famous Ziegfeld theater where most Hollywood films are premiered in Manhattan. It was a very full three days to say the least. The Cantor charity day requires that charities bring celebrities to do the trading that day on the phones. Ben Stiller and President Clinton were among two of the celebrities and yes I met Ben Stiller and called him "Adam" thinking he was Adam Standler (Sorry Ben!). Between Bethany and AnnaSophia they traded over 2 billion dollars that day on the phones with investors. However the highlight of the trip for me was seeing the famous Ziegfeld theater packed out with Bethany fans and especially one divine appointment that happened. After I hosted the question and answer time with Bethany, she had to get going for her early flight the next day and as she was leaving a Chief New York Fire Fighter and his daughter happened to show up late and were one of the few who had the opportunity to meet Bethany and take a photo with her. His daughter was absolutely freaking out excited and when Bethany left I had the honor of talking to this chief fire fighter about his 911 experience. He and a fellow fire fighter barely escaped when the first tower fell and when the second tower fell his fellow fire fighter friend unfortunately did not make it while he happened to jump into a garage of a neighboring building which saved his life. We thanked him for his service and I asked him if we could pray for him and his family. After praying for him, I said, "They might all be excited to meet Bethany but that is how I feel about meeting you. You are a hero and I am so thankful that you lived on 911 and to meet your beautiful eight year old daughter who would not be here if you had been killed." I then went back into the packed out theater and shared the Gospel message after the movie. Over thirty people received Christ that night. I absolutely love watching God work!!! This N.Y. Miyazaki, Japan Missions Trip

Walking on Water recently returned from a mission trip to Miyazaki, Japan. While there, the team worked with Christian Surfers Japan in the little town of Kawaminami. Kawaminami has been affected by the Bird Flu and Hoof and Mouth disease these past few years, resulting in much devastation and hopelessness to the small farming community. During our stay, we were able to spread some light to the people by hosting an ice cream party for the kids and by running an English Bible camp where we shared the good news of Jesus Christ. Japan’s national surfing championship, which attracts the best surfers in Japan, also happened to be held during our trip! Taking advantage of this amazing opportunity to evangelize, we passed out 1,000 Walking On Water Dvds along with 600 “Surfers Guide to God” (these are Gospel of Mark booklets in Japanese complete with surfers testimonies). The Lord thoroughly blessed our time in Japan beyond what we could have planned for! Please continue to pray for the people of Japan, as well as consider joining us next year. Tapachula, Mexico

Trip Description:

Come with us to Tapachula Mexico to teach orphan kids about God and to spend time surfing with them. We will be working with "Mission Mexico" an orphanage in Tapachula which has been a ray of hope to orphans around Tapachula. Mission Mexico has a need for Christians to come down and share God's love with the kids of the orphanage. This is a perfect trip for surfers because not only will you be able to share the love of Jesus with these precious kids, but you will also get to surf with them! Many of these kids are surfing and have found it to be an amazing outlet for their lives. There is a wonderful documentary made about the orphanage called "Somewhere Near Tapachula." Japan 2010

Ministry opportunities:

Be a part of the premiere of Walking On Water the movie (subtitled in Japanese)
Give out free Walking On Water DVD's (Noah's Arc dvd, subtitled in Japanese) to the Japanese surfers on and around the beach.
Give out free “Surfers Guide to God” booklets. This is the book of Mark with professional surfers testimonies specially geared towards Japanese surfers.
This trip is focused on relational ministry and a lot of time will be spent creating friendships with Japanese surfers that will last a lifetime. In the past 7 years this has been a very effective way to introduce the Japanese to Christ.

This is our 7th annual trip to Japan! Each year we work directly with the organization Christian Surfers Japan (CSJ). This will be our second time going to Miyazaki and working with Daisuke who is the Regional Coordinator for CSJ. Daisuke is a pastor and a surfer who desires to see more Japanese surfers come to know Jesus.

Japan is still one of the least reached countries in the world with the gospel. 99.5% of Japanese do not know the Lord! There are an estimated 2 to 3 million surfers in Japan, which means there are more Japanese surfers then there are followers of Jesus. There has never been a better time to be a surfer who also wants to share the gospel!!

This trip has gained much popularity and will fill up fast.

Chile 2010

Serve and Surf!

Come with us to beautiful Pichilemu Chile for an incredible time of ministry and surf. Chile is the safest country in Central and South America and is a perfect place for surfers to engage in the many ministry opportunities there. We will be there during the beginning of the Chilean summer, which means lots of surfers and lots of ministry opportunities!

While in Pichilemu we will be working alongside the YWAM (Youth With a Mission) base. This YWAM base is a special Discipleship Training School for surfers and is right in the heart of the local surf community and an incredible left hand point break.
