In January, I had the privilege of leading a group of leaders from my church to Israel. There are a few reasons this trip was so special to me. First and foremost my pastor George Hulse--who has been my pastor since I was twelve years old--my surf coach (back in the day), and also a good friend, was on the trip. I have led many groups to Israel from my church but to have this group of leaders tangibly experience the things God has put on my heart was surreal—something I have prayed and thought about for years now.
As we toured the Biblical sites of Israel and read from God’s Word together, I found great joy as team members kept saying: “Each spot we go to I think it can’t get any better, but it keeps getting better!” There is a monumental leap forward in a believer’s life when you stand in the very places you have read about your entire Christian life. The Scripture moves from black and white words on a page to high definition.
While on the coast, we had the opportunity to be a part of a Promised Land screening in a town called Bat Yam just a few miles south of Tel Aviv. There were about 80-100 Israelis who came out for the screening and the surf-stoked crowd really enjoyed watching the movie. A few of the people from my group mentioned that they watched the movie back home and enjoyed it, but when they watched it with the all Jewish audience that night it brought on a whole new dimension. I believe there is a reason for this. When in Israel you realize first hand how the Gospel is not known, nor spoken of. One’s perception of this is extremely heightened when in Israel, so when the team watched Promised Land and heard the Gospel proclaimed they knew they were apart of something special. I was excited for my group to witness this first hand and to be apart of the seeds God is planting through the Promised Land movie.1 Discuss & Comment
