“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 4:19
Our friends in Rio stepped out in faith to invite us to their outreach four years ago. They worked hard, and God poured out His blessings on their work. It is so encouraging to see that through their faithfulness, blessings are continuing to be poured out at the same event, four years later.
This reminds us of the story in 2 Kings chapter 4. Elisha told the poor widow to ask her neighbors for empty jars. Verses 3 - 6 say, “‘Don’t ask for just a few. Go inside and shut the door behind you and your sons. Pour oil into all the jars, and as each is filled put it to one side.’ She left him and shut the door behind her and her sons. They brought the jars to her and she kept pouring. When all the jars were full, she said to her son, ‘Bring me another one.’ But he replied, ‘There is not a jar left.’ Then the oil stopped flowing.”
The widow and her sons only gathered as many jars as they believed they would need. Jars were cheap, and since they borrowed from neighbors, they could give them back. They could have gathered more, but they didn’t. They limited God’s blessings by the number of jars they collected. When the jars were gone, the oil stopped flowing.
Maria and our Rio friends’ faithfulness remind us that God is not limited. If we step out in faith, He will provide for our needs. He will pour out His blessings, and touch many lives through us. We don’t want to run out of jars. We don’t want to limit what God can do because of our lack of faith.
