Our last trip to Israel went amazing! We had a great team and a great time ministering back in the land where it all began. Our main ministry focus was to premiere the Promised Land movie in three locations and to make ourselves available to the Israelis we met along the way. The three locations were Jaffa, Haifa and Nahariya and took place in bars--right where Jesus wanted us. Our little team was a light to an area of Israeli society that is lost and broken and desperately needs the love of Jesus. Contrary to common belief most Israelis do not know much, if anything at all, about Jesus. This is hard for a lot of Christians to believe since we know that Jesus was an Israeli himself and lived and ministered to the Jewish people in Israel. For most of those in the audience it may have been their first exposure to Jesus!
After each premiere we gave a Promised Land DVD to everyone in the audience. Please pray with us that each person who saw the movie would revisit the DVD and that the Father would lead them to Yeshua Hamashiach (Jesus the Messiah). Pray also that the DVD’s would circulate around the country and would reach many people with its message.
The process was grueling; we started with no budget and little to no support. I had almost given up several times but just when I thought the idea was dead, God would open up another door just wide enough to get me motivated.
I first had to identify a “Champion” in the church; someone besides me that thought this was a good idea. Once I had them I was able to gain support from key players (people that would volunteer to help out for free). These key people included sound, lighting, and other tech guys that usually charge money for their services.
In order for this to be a successful outreach I had to identify a local business outside of the Church to help spread the word. This came in the form of a local Surf Shop. They supplied prizes and helped make this outreach legit, and not just another “Church” event. With these key people in place we started to gain momentum. I put a few of the students in charge of the social media and watched God work.
We had over 350 people attend, not one, but two bands, and a handful of sponsors that gave away prizes and helped us spread the word. Walking on Water did more than their part. They came in and put on a professional show that was core enough for the surfers in the audience and tied God in perfectly. Bryan Jennings did a great job putting the message together. He did not come off as “preachy” or “uncool,” but was able to drive the message home enough for the most mature Christians in the audience.0 Discuss & Comment
It seems like every week we have new exciting things going on with the Beyond Sight movie production! Derek Rabelo was in Hawaii for December, January and February then he went home to Brazil for one week before coming here to California for six days of filming in March. We had a very productive week including being on the San Diego and Oahu news (Watch here: http://www.kitv.com/news/hawaii/Blind-surfer-inspires/-/8905354/19133354/-/k1xtb5z/-/index.html) and filming a scene at a Sambazon Acai restaurant, a Panera Bread restaurant, surfing sessions, and Derek's interview. Derek was also the guest speaker at a disabled technology convention (Thank you www.deque.com) where he really encouraged many people including the Denny family whose daughter was in a car accident and almost lost 100% of her sight. Bryan Jennings and Derek were both guest speakers at Shoreline Church in San Clemente, which is a church of about 800 people who were very excited to meet Derek. The next day they filmed with Shannon Quirk from the Surf Channel (www.thesurfchannel.com) and they also encourage about 100 young kids at a school where Derek led the blindfolded kids around the classroom. Another highlight of this trip was introducing Derek to the Graham family who has been very inspired by his story especially because their two year old son Kelptyn has a rare blood disease and has had two bone marrow transplants, many surgeries, and is now blind. Kelptyn's dad Matt is a surfer and he is very thankful to know through Derek's story that Kelptyn's life will also be full of adventures. To read more about Kelptyn you can go to his parents' blog here: http://thehoneygrahams.weebly.com/index.html. To finish the week we had a special Beyond Sight update night at the Wentz' home. Next steps are to film in Brazil as we edit the movie and plan out the world tour! Thank you for all your prayers and support! www.beyondsightmovie.com1 Discuss & Comment
God truly did more than we could have ever asked or imagined! God opened every door possible including being invited by Billabong to the Billabong Pipeline masters, spending time with current world champion Joel Parkinson, filming with Kelly Slater, Derek getting great waves at Pipeline, and surfing with many of the best surfers on planet earth! One of the highlights of the trip was showing the Beyond Sight movie trailer to a packed Surfer Bar just before Tom Curren played music. The crowd loved meeting Derek and watching the movie trailer and our team then passed out 150 free Walking On Water dvds. Derek was able to meet and film with Bruce Irons, Gerry Lopez, Sunny Garcia, Reef Macintosh, Makua Rothman, Kala Alexander, John John Florence, TJ Barron, Coco Ho, Lakey Peterson and many others. Billabong also made sure to feature our team and the Beyond Sight 1 minute video on the live webcast seen by every surfer in the world. On the final day of the trip I had the honor of introducing Derek Rabelo to Bethany Hamilton. They are both inspiring this entire generation so I am glad that they are now friends. We had a fun day filming for the Beyond Sight movie together. Thank you for all of your support and prayers! A big thank you to Billabong, S4J Hawaii Productions, Marty family, Duhs Family, Hamilton family, Paul Polakowski, Swanson Family, Clark family, Wentz family, Jay Schweitzer, Nathan Apfell, Faith Fay, Sean Marin, Jonty Bougas, Mike Stangel, Surfing the Nations, CR Studios, Cobian Sandals, and everyone who worked hard on this filming trip. www.beyondsightmovie.com for more info. Here is a KUSI news clip about the movie: http://www.kusi.com/video?clipId=8091202&autostart=true
Today was our first day of filming Beyond Sight here in Hawaii. The day started out with surfboard shaper Eddie Piccalo presenting Derek Rabelo with his Diamond Head surf boards. Derek and his surf coach Maru, placed stickers from Derek’s sponsors, Billabong, Cobian Sandals, and Souls for Jesus carefully upon the boards. Then it was off to Pipeline where Derek visited with Rob Machado, John John Florence, Koa Rothman, and Derek Ho. Derek, Bryan Jennings, and Bruno Lemos discussed the surf conditions and decided tomorrow morning would be the perfect day for Derek to paddle out and surf Pipeline. Thank you for your continued prayers and support! Please continue to ask all your friends to become one of our Backers on Kickstarter! We only have 16 days left to reach our goal of $77,777 for the production budget of this very special movie!! thank you!!! Kickstarter link is here: http://www.kickstarter.com/
We had an amazing Walking On Water Hawaii Family Camp in November! We had special guests Bethany Hamilton, Sonya Chung, Faith Faye, and pro surfer TJ Barron. The weekend was absolutely blessed, full of divine appointments and it was so special to get to know the families who attended. The Marty family was on vacation in Oahu and ended up joining our camp, after randomly meeting us on the beach and learning why we were there. We had devotionals on the beach, surfed Waikiki, watched Sunny Garcia win the Sunset surf competition, handed out many Walking On Water films people on the beach and had a private catered dinner with Bethany Hamilton as our special guest. The final day we attended One Love Church in Honolulu and were blessed by Pastor Waxer's message! Thank you to all of our special guests, Cobian Sandals, Pastor Mike Stangle, and TJ Barron's parents for catering the food!!! Our next Hawaii family camp will be on Oahu again in May of 2013! See you there! Aloha!0 Discuss & Comment
This past Month, on Saturday September 22nd, Walking On Water hosted an inspirational evening with Derek Rabelo to promote the Beyond Sight film and raise awareness for the Kickstarter campaign that is about to launch. With a great turnout of 300 guests, we were able to reach our goal of raising awareness for the film and were also able to raise about $8,000 towards the production of the film. We were very blessed to have Bruno Lemos (of Bruno Productions), Derek Rabelo and the entire Souls 4 Jesus Hawaii productions team at the event. We would like to thank Wahoo's for providing a great dinner, Christian Surfers San Clemente, Souls 4 Jesus Hawaii Productions, Dominic Balli for the music, Andy Albrecht and Jay Wentz from Are You Ready Clothing and Shoreline Church for hosting us. We are still in need of funds for the production of Beyond Sight. For more info on how to support the film please visit, www.beyondsightmovie.com0 Discuss & Comment
