Puerto Trip Report

The Puerto Escondido Trip was a smashing success. Puerto Escondido has long been known as one of the best and most serious beach breaks in the world. If you are a surfer who loves to travel, Puerto Escondido would definitely be on the top of your bucket list.

Ronne and Sheri Jones prayed about having a world-wide ministry, but after a visit to Puerto Escondido, they realized that the world comes to Puerto Escondido. So they set up a base camp for ministry that reaches the world in one beautiful little beach community —which happens to have a pretty good wave out front. 28 years and 9 kids later, the Jones family continues to do amazing ministry through the world of surfing and soccer on a world-wide stage.

Our team was reminded again of the power of short-term missions. Not only the impact it had on our personal lives, but the encouragement it brought to all the people doing ministry on the ground in Puerto Escondido. We were blessed to serve in a hospital visitation ministry started by an ex-cartel member, build a new fence around the amazing soccer complex, lead a church service, and host an outreach event. The outreach event was a massive highlight as we gave awards of appreciation to the lifeguard legends of Puerto Escondido, awards and new swim fins and binoculars to the current lifeguards, and showed the Walking On Water movie “Beyond Sight”. We were praying for 200 people to show up and God blessed us with an incredible turnout of over 450 people with many making first time commitments to Christ and receiving a brand new Bible. One highlight was a blind man showing up to be a part of the movie showing with a friend whispering over his shoulder the whole movie to tell him about what was going on in the movie.

God is good and we all can’t wait for Puerto Escondido Trip next year, and you may just want to join us on this next one.

Beyond Sight to Park City

Derek Rabelo’s story continues to have a huge impact around the world. Derek is our blind surfer friend from Brazil, and his movie, Beyond Sight, is about his quest to get a barrel at the most dangerous wave in the world, the Pipeline. We were blessed recently to see two important ministry moments happen simultaneously around the world: Derek was sharing his story and giving away 500 copies of Beyond Sight in Australia, while his movie was being shown to hundreds in Park City, Utah.

Park City, Utah: Russ Jackson accepted Christ on a surf trip when he was in his 20’s and has been a huge fan of surfing ever since. Russ now finds himself living in the mountains in Park City, Utah, but that doesn’t stop him from using surfing, the one thing that saved his life, from being used in his own community to reach others for Christ! So Russ, his wife Julie, and son Luke decided they wanted to show Beyond Sight in Park City, Utah at an amazing theater that is used for regular film festivals. Russ and his family worked so hard to promote the movie and were hoping that 100 people would show up. To their amazement and joy, over 350 people showed up to see the movie, and many made first time commitments to Christ. Russ and his family are so blessed that surfing was used again, even in Park City, Utah, to bring people to faith in Christ, just like it did for Russ years ago.

We are praising God that now more than 200,000 people have seen Beyond Sight in live attendance and Derek’s story continues to make an impact in peoples lives.

PipeMasters Commercial of Beyond Sight

The PipeMasters is the Super Bowl of surfing. There is no greater event to watch in the world, than surfers competing at the best and most beautiful wave on the planet. With over 7 million core surfers tuning in to watch the live webcast of the PipeMasters, we decided to give away the Beyond Sight Movie to everyone watching the contest. The draw of Derek’s dream to surf Pipeline has continued to be a huge light to the surfing community as thousands have tuned in to watch his story. Through your support, we feel so blessed during this Christmas season to be giving away a gift that again points to Jesus Christ.

Thanks to your generous support the Beyond Sight commercial on the Pipe Masters live webcast had a huge impact!  Each day people on the North Shore would tell us they saw our commercial and it opened up doors for us to share the Gospel.  Over 500,000 core surfers from around the world watched the commercial and the Beyond Sight movie was seen by thousands of surfers in over 50 countries!  Since 500,000 people saw the commercial and found out about the Walking On Water ministry we believe that we will continue to see the impact of the commercial in the coming months.  Having a presence at the Super Bowl of surfing is exactly what the Walking On Water ministry should continue to do in future years!
You can watch the 15 second commercial by clicking here, or below:
Thank you again for stepping out in faith with us on this project!  We hope to do it again next year!

Derek Rabelo in New Zealand

Derek Rabelo has just completed a very blessed tour of New Zealand. The eleven day tour was organized by Rosemaree Knight and Jeanine Treherne from Australia. The tour covered the area of Auckland-Raglan-Mount Wanganui, and it included visits to churches, youth groups, a TV Interview for Shine TV, and more. Derek was interviewed by Radio Rhema, visited The New Zealand Surf Academy at Raglan Area School, surfed with enthusiasts, Christian Surfers, and other Christians who braved the cold water. He also had the chance to show the Beyond Sight movie three times.

During the tour they made many good friends, and Derek especially loved meeting a blind boy at the event hosted by Christian Surfers at the Mt Manganui Social Club. It was a truly incredible time, and they were blessed with wonderful hospitality along the way.The tour had great program support & hosting from many churches and youth ministries, and Derek was encouraged to return and visit even more places in the future. What a Mighty God we serve.

Vail Outreach

The Beyond Sight Showing in Vail turned out to be a great night of ministry. Pastors from 6 churches were at the movie, and many, many friends of believers came! There were over 450 people in attendance, (every seat was full-and kids were on the floor!) People were invited to churches all around the valley, and we are believing God to use the showing for His good purposes and plans!

Colorado Impact

Buck and Tara Chavarria, the founders of SK8 Church ministry (christforlifeskatechurch.com) did an amazing job hosting and promoting the Beyond Sight movie at the Chief theater in their hometown of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The theater was packed out and the audience loved the movie. We hope to bring Derek Rabelo to Colorado in the winter of 2016 so he can learn to snowboard and inspire everyone there through more Beyond Sight movie showings. To host a showing, email [email protected]

Ventura Beyond Sight Showing

The Beyond Sight movie showings (Sponsored by Scosche!) at the Century 10 Cinemark movie theater in downtown Ventura were such a reminder of what a great inspirational movie Beyond Sight is! Our team was very encouraged by the SOLD OUT showings and the audience reactions! We even had 3X World Surf Champion Tom Curren play a few songs for us. Bryan Jennings’ long time friends Roger & Melissa Thompson along with Jason Walters were the “City/Theater Hosts” who worked hard to bring together many of the local churches and schools to pack out the theaters! We plan to go back to Ventura in April and also will be planning many more Beyond Sight movie showings in every city where we have a “THEATER HOST”.  To be a “THEATER HOST” you simply need to be willing to step out in faith to work together with our planning team to show the Beyond Sight movie in your local movie theater, working together with your local churches, schools, and ministries. Also Derek Rabelo is planning a few Beyond Sight movie showings in his hometown and other cities in Brazil in April and May.

East Coast Trip with Derek Rabelo

Walking on Water has done Surf Camps and outreach events up and down the West Coast and all across the world. These past two weeks, Derek and Kevin hopped on a plane to the east coast for two outreach events, and a surf camp. Their first stop was Murrells Inlet, South Carolina. The week started with a great Beyond Sight movie showing that opened up ministry opportunities the rest of the week. Both Derek and Kevin were interviewed on TV and openly shared the hope of the Gospel on a prime time news station. Kelly Richards of Perfection Surfboards hosted the Walking on Water team during their stay and was a huge blessing. Then the boys headed north to Wilmington, North Carolina, to help Indo Jax Surf School with their charity Blind Surf Camp. Jack Viorel and his team do amazing work in their community. Derek helped young visually impaired kids get on some waves, and truly encouraged their families along the way. We also did a hugely successful outreach event where we showed Beyond Sight and shared the Gospel with all of those attending. We continue to be blessed and encouraged by the impact Derek and Beyond Sight have had in communities around the world, and we are thankful for all you do to make that happen. Hope to see you at our next outreach event!

Beyond Sight World Tour Update

March 7th marked one year since the Beyond Sight world premiere in San Clemente, California and the movie has now been seen by over 50,000 people in 12 countries. However in many ways we believe the world tour of Beyond Sight is just getting started. Bryan Jennings and his family recently traveled to Sayulita, Mexico and screened the movie to over two hundred people in partnership with our friends, the Cathey famil,y who have started the Calvary Chapel church there. In November of 2013 Derek and Bryan were invited by the Stand Tall Event of Australia to come as special guest speakers. Very strong friendships were built that year with the Stand Tall event leaders, and since then God has done amazing things! Nutri Grain of Australia has featured Derek in a nationwide TV commercial, put him on the back of every Kellogg’s cereal box, and overnight made Derek a celebrity in Australia. Derek recently spent six weeks in Australia showing the Beyond Sight movie in many cities and doing Nutri Grain public relations events. The Jennings’ family also met Derek on the Gold Coast of Australia recently, where world champion surfer Mick Fanning posted the Beyond Sight movie invite on his instagram to his 350K followers. We had over 700 people attend the movie showing, and Derek was featured on the local news. In Australia on this trip Bryan spoke to three churches, three schools, scouted new surf camp locations, hosted four Beyond Sight showings, and most importantly was able to thank our incredible Australian volunteer team who worked hard to plan all of the Beyond Sight showings in Australia! Anyone in Australia or anywhere who is interested in hosting a Beyond Sight movie showing, email [email protected]
