“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:13-16
The end of a year is a great time to look back and thank God for His hand in our lives over the past year. Though most of us remember 2015 as a year of both blessings and challenges, one thing we know: God has been faithful.
The end of a year is also an excellent time to look ahead and look forward to the New Year. Adventures await us and yes, there will be new challenges to face. Though we don’t know what the future holds, one thing is sure: God will again be faithful.
The end of the year is also a great time to ask ourselves: What are we called to do in the New Year? How can we best partner with God in the work He is doing? God will have a different calling for each of us, depending on our gifts and the season we are in, but one thing is certain: We are called to be salt and light. In our work and in our play. In our relationships, jobs, hobbies, neighborhoods and families.
Let’s look ahead with gratitude and faith and prepare ourselves to be salt and light in 2016!
