At the Night of Inspiration, Bryan had the chance to interview Bethany Hamilton. Here is a little peek at the Q and A with Bethany!
Q: What is your favorite ice cream?
A: Coconut Bliss Mocha Almond Fudge (dairy free), or for real ice cream: Cookies and Cream.
Q: Tell us about Tobias…
A: He’s this real cutie pie that I am super in love with! Tobias is our baby, and he is three months old. And I know all of the parents will agree, but once you have kids you’ll understand. If you think you don’t want kids, you really do, because the joy you get is amazing. My favorite mornings are when Tobias wakes us up and he is squealing the cutest squeal and it goes for like a half hour. It’s the best alarm clock.
Q: What does every step matters mean to you?
A: When I look at the life I’ve had and all of the different paths I’ve taken, and looking back when I lost my arm and the decisions I’ve made from there…the way my faith encouraged me through that … it is clear that every little step you take matters. Every choice you make can hugely affect your future. If it is a good step it can affect your future in a positive direction, if it is a bad step you might go in a bad direction. My faith is the stepping stone in the decisions I make, and if it weren’t for my faith I wouldn’t be here.
Q: If you could go back in time and have the shark attack happen or not happen, what would your choose?
A: I think I’d hopefully choose to loose my arm because I look at all the amazing things that have happened since then, mostly just being able to encourage other people through their hard times and their struggles. What better life could I have than to be able to love on other people through what they’ve been through. As awful as loosing my arm to a shark was, there is so many amazing things that have come out of it.
Q: What do you wish someone told you when you were a young girl?
A: Our beauty is not in our figure or being “perfect”. I think of beauty as how God sees us and loves us no matter what and accepts us as we are.
When you’re struggling with your body image, think on being healthy and making good decisions about your daily activities. I am encouraged by what Christ has done for me and His forgiveness for my sins, and His love for me just as I am.
