I am sitting on a plane scrunched between two people, the guy in front of me has his chair reclined, and my laptop is half opened as I try to type. However I am too excited to not write down all that God just accomplished. Crazy to think that just a few hours ago Kyle Lane (WOW Surf Camp Director) and I were standing in the athletes VIP area of the OI Rio Pro World Surf League event watching Filipe Toledo make surfing history in front of his home country with the largest and most passionate surfing crowd I have ever seen. When we invited Filipe and his parents to our annual church event we had no idea the date would be the night before his final and before the entire surfing world would be shocked by his amazing surfing performance.
Our good friends Maria, Joao, and Luiza were calling the event, “Walking On Water 4” because it was our fourth consecutive outreach during the Rio Pro. The first year of the event, I was introduced to Derek Rabelo (blind surfer) and his friends Bruno, Raquel, and Lika. Our Rio friends took a step of faith to host the first outreach and to invite us. As a result God birthed many lasting friendships, the Beyond Sight movie, a bible study that meets weekly for the Favela kids (still going four years later) and even a marriage between Maria and Diego.
Each year we do this outreach it becomes more special because of all that God continues to do! This year Kyle and I built a closer friendship with the Toledo family, were inspired to start a Walking On Water TV Show, and handed out many WOW dvds to the surf fans. The Nova Igreja church event was very blessed, and we had many divine appointments with pro surfers and those who work in the international surf industry. Thank you to everyone who helped make “Walking On Water 4” happen, and let us know if you want to come with us for “Walking On Water 5” in Rio in May of 2016 just before the Olympics will be there!
