Isaiah 26:3 "You will keep in perfect Peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you."
When we face overwhelming circumstances, it is easy to let our thoughts get out of control. Whether we are hit with bad news, or just in a stressful season, our natural reaction is often to mentally wrestle with things, meditating on all of the variables and possible outcomes.
I remember reading this verse in Isaiah when I was a younger believer, going through some challenging times. I knew that I could take God at His Word so I held on to this verse like my life depended on it. I chose to make the faith choice to trust God, and completely believed that He would give me "perfect peace." Each time I caught my thoughts focusing on stressful things, I would read this verse, written on a 3X5 card, and determine to keep my mind "steadfast" on the Lord.
God met me in this place of trust, and it wasn't long before I was walking through my trial with much less stress and much more peace.
Now, as my husband and I raise our four boys, we have plenty of opportunities to coach them through their challenges. We have used this verse in Isaiah to encourage our son before he faces intimidating waves in a contest, and found other verses to remind our boys that their strength is in the Lord.
God's Word is powerful. Whatever you might be facing, there is a verse for you. I encourage you to find it–write it down, and live like your life depends on it. You won't ever be disappointed in God's promises.
